Metropolitan Opera baritone Gary Simpson will be seen as HOBART SHOWALTER in HBO/Cinemax’s new series “The Knick” starring Clive Owen and directed by Steven Soderbergh premiering in 2014. Gary can also be seen as PRITSCHISCH in “The Merry Widow” at the Metropolitan Opera in the Fall of 2014. He will sing IAGO in “Otello” with the Kalamazoo Symphony and SWEENEY in “Sweeney Todd” at the Globe Theater in Odessa Texas. Gary was just seen in the American Premier of the opera “Matsukaze” in the role of THE MONK at the Spoleto Festival this summer. He also performed THE MONK at the Lincoln Center Festival. Gary was seen as MILES GLORIOSUS in “A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum” with TheatreZone, Florida – Naples’ Professional Theatre Company. Gary sang MEPHISTOPHELES in “Faust” with Opera Naples and his third production of SWEENEY in “Sweeney Todd” with the Nevada Opera. Mr Simpson was also seen as SCARPIA and PIZZARO in Frankfurt, Germany and also IAGO with the Arizona Opera.
Recently: Mr Simpson sang in Der Fliegende Holländer, in his fifth production, in Cape Town, South Africa. Gary sang HOLLÄNDER at the BNO, Romania and also with the Statni Opera Prague, Czech Republic, the Manaus Opera Festival in Brazil, as well as with the Hawaii Opera Theater. He has sung IAGO with the Minnesota Opera, Hawaii OperaTheater, The Otello Project and with the Opera Orchestra of New York as well as Arizona Opera.

Gary worked for two seasons as a Firefighter for the US Forest Service, Payette Forest, New Meadows District and is a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts
